I've recently completed several projects with heritage/countryside organisations. The first was writing a resource on researching family history for British Waterways. They'll be launching the final pack later in 2010.
Another, working with my colleague Verity Walker at Interpretaction consultancy, was evaluating a storytelling project for junior schools in Hackney, London, run jointly by the Hackney Historic Buildings Trust and the National Trust. Their properties Sutton House and St. Augustine's Tower worked together to bring alive ideas about Hackney's multiculturalism through the centuries. The day chosen for my evaluation visit was icy cold, and I followed the children up the winding stone stairs of the C13th Tower to stand on the roof in snow... the only benefit being that the nearby Emirates Stadium was not visible through the swirl, so the evaluation drawings the children did for me afterwards were informed by the day's stories and locations, instead of the excitement of seeing the football stadium!
I'm now writing two annual reviews - one is a more formal document, combining previous documents into a biennial review for a national museum. For the other, I've worked with the Booksellers Association to develop the concept for an informal, lighter review of the Association's activities, with lots of space, pictures and case studies - a departure for them from their previous annual reports. I'm interviewing several booksellers as well as writing the text. I'm also getting on with one of the regular articles I write for the charity Arthritis Care. So it's all go at the moment!
